Our Process
Incoming deliveries of scrap metal are weighed on either our drive-on truck scale or, for smaller quantities, in the receiving area of our warehouse. By subtracting tare weight from the vehicle gross, we determine the net weight of the scrap. Scale readings are captured in our exclusive computer software system, and automatically downloaded to a report/receipt, giving you a clear and accurate tally of your delivery.
Using our sophisticated, hand-held analyzer or portable optical emissions analyzer, we can determine the exact chemical composition of any metal alloy. Ideal for quickly identifying and sorting different materials, including nickel, cobalt, stainless steel, and copper compositions, these devices help us maintain the highest level of quality assurance.
Incoming scrap metal is sorted and stored with other material of the same kind in designated segregation bins around our yard until it is time to be processed.
Our 90,000 pound crane, with its huge metal shears, makes quick work of cutting up even the largest sections of scrap metal, such as dump truck containers, large-diameter metal pipe, plate steel, and structural I-Beams.
Inside the warehouse, the preparation process continues, where scrap metals pieces are cut down to more manageable sizes and sorted into boxes ready for shipping to the mills.
The sloped floor in our specially designed turnings containment area allows residual cutting fluids to drain out and flow into the in-ground troughs that carry it to our liquid-recycling system.
Designed specifically for the proper environmental reclamation of oily and water soluble contaminants contained in the metal turning and chips, this liquid-recycling system represents the latest in recycling technology. By eliminating environmental hazards, Harding Metals gives customers peace of mind knowing you are protected from cradle-to-grave responsibility for environmental waste pollution.
Loose materials are loaded onto the conveyor leading up to our industrial bailing machine, which can process 160,000 lbs. or the equivalent of four semi trailer loads, of scrap material per day.
Our finished product: a finished bail of the highest quality sorted metal scrap packaged and ready for final inspection and shipment to mills across the country and around the world.
